Simple answers to the most common questions about Zama Coin, mining ZAM, and how it all works.

General
Zama Coin (ZAM) is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency built for Africa. It is based on the same technology as Monero — meaning all transactions are private by default. No one can see how much you sent, who you sent it to, or what you received. It is Africa's Digital Gold.
Most African people missed out on Bitcoin and Ethereum when they were cheap. Zama was created to give Africans the chance to be early for the first time. The total supply is only 100,000,000 ZAM — and most of it is still being mined right now.
No. Zama has no ICO, no pre-sale, and no tokens handed out for free. The founder reserve is only 4% of total supply and is publicly visible on-chain. You can verify the wallet address at any time on the Transparency page. The remaining 96% is mined openly by the community.
The total supply is 100,000,000 ZAM (100 million). 4,000,000 ZAM (4%) is the founder development reserve. The remaining 96,000,000 ZAM is mined by the public over time through Proof of Work mining.
Mining
Yes. Mining is live. You can mine ZAM using your CPU with XMRig. Visit the Mine page for a full step-by-step guide including a downloadable config file.
No. ZAM uses the RandomX algorithm which is designed for regular CPUs. You do not need a GPU or ASIC machine. Any modern laptop or desktop computer can mine ZAM. The more CPU cores you have, the more you earn.
It depends on your CPU speed (hashrate) and the current network difficulty. A modern 8-core CPU typically earns between 1–5 ZAM per day during the early network phase. Earnings increase as the ZAM price rises on exchanges.
A mining pool combines the hashrate of many miners and splits the rewards fairly. Solo mining means you only get paid when your machine finds a block alone — which can take a very long time. Pool mining means you get small, steady payments every time the pool finds a block. We recommend pool mining for most users.
Mining uses your CPU at high load, which generates heat. As long as your computer has adequate ventilation and cooling, it is safe. The XMRig config we provide sets max-threads-hint to 75% so your computer stays responsive while mining. Do not mine on a laptop that overheats easily.
Wallet
Download the Zama wallet on the Wallet page. Linux is available now. Windows and macOS are coming soon. The wallet is free, open source, and requires no sign-up or account.
Your seed phrase is 25 words that are the only backup of your wallet. If your computer is lost, stolen, or broken, these 25 words let you restore your wallet and access all your ZAM. Write them on paper. Never type them online. Never share them with anyone. Zama support will never ask for your seed phrase.
Not yet. Mobile wallet support is on the roadmap. For now, the desktop wallet on Linux works well. Windows and macOS wallets are coming next.
Privacy
In many African countries, showing wealth publicly can make you a target. Governments, banks, and third parties can monitor regular crypto transactions on transparent blockchains like Bitcoin. Zama's transactions are completely private — no one can see your balance or your payment history. Your money is yours alone.
No. Zama uses ring signatures, stealth addresses, and confidential transactions to hide the sender, receiver, and amount on every transaction. This is the same technology used by Monero, which has the strongest privacy track record in the industry.
Exchange Listings
ZAM is not yet listed on exchanges. Exchange listings are planned once the founder reserve milestone is reached. Target exchanges include CoinEx, NonKYC.io, and VALR (South Africa). Join the waitlist to be notified the moment trading opens.
Exchange listings happen after the 4,000,000 ZAM founder reserve is fully mined. You can track progress live on the Transparency page. The earlier you mine, the more ZAM you hold before it ever hits an exchange.
Zama Send
Zama Send is a free money transfer service that lets you send money from South Africa to Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, and Mozambique. The recipient receives their money on EcoCash — no bank account needed on either side. ZAM moves in the background so neither party needs to know about crypto.
Zero fees. Not 1%, not 5% — zero. Traditional remittance services charge 5–15% to send money across African borders. Zama Send charges nothing. The minimum transfer is R50.
Money typically arrives in under 30 minutes. Once you make your EFT payment, we process it and send your recipient a WhatsApp link to claim their money on EcoCash.
You send from South Africa. Your recipient can be in Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, or Mozambique. More countries will be added over time.
Zama Pay
Zama Pay is a free payment terminal for informal traders and small businesses. Instead of buying or renting a card machine, merchants use their own Android phone to accept card payments. No hardware needed. No monthly fees. ZAM moves silently in the background — the merchant only ever sees Rands.
The customer pays exactly like they would at any shop — they tap their Visa or Mastercard on the merchant's Android phone. No crypto app needed. No QR code scanning. Just a normal card tap. The merchant sees the payment confirmed in seconds.
Zama Pay is planned for 2027. It is part of the broader Zama ecosystem and will be available as a free Android app. Join the waitlist to be notified when it launches.
